Le Voleur Evolution

We developed Le Voleur for over than a year now. One night we discussed about how we like Ocean 13 (and Ocean Series in general) and we like to create a game that feels like it. We decided to use Paris as location. That was the beginning of Le Voleur.
On the next day, I started to create the main idea on how the game will run. I utilized an old foam board, pins and colored ribbons.

Le Voleur 1st Prototype: poor man version

The colored pins on the left shows the Agents ability while the ones on the board shows where these ability can be used. I cropped a portion of downtown Paris from google earth (lol) and printed them on 4 A4-sized paper creating a board area of A2-sized paper. We haven't decided on how the ability on every agent can manipulate the board but we were satisfied on how we populate them.

Le Voleur 2nd Prototype: the messy lines

As we can see the lines connecting all tokens on the board are messy but we need it to see how the board works. As for the skills, we use punched cards so the color of the used skill will be visible if we put the Thief Card behind it. A friend suggested to create something like pocket on the back of the cover and it was brilliant idea.

Le Voleur 3rd Prototype: the nicer messy lines

We came up with another idea how to make the lines less intimidating. It still has lines but we uses 2 lines instead and the lines are sharing color with any token it touches. This design was perfectly executed by Didiek Arifman. We're really like it.

The man responsible for Le Voleur design from now on

We changed the Thief Card to dials and we replaced the pocket with magnets. Effectively creates customizable dial.

Le Voleur 4th Prototype

The latest evolution for Le Voleur. We took 2 major changes here.
1st: we finally found a way to eliminate the messy lines! Now the board look more neat. I would write about this change, probably another time :)
2nd: We change the magnet with snap-off button. This change makes the token lighter and smaller.

This version is the one we use for demo and playtesting. It is not perfect and we're still looking for more feedbacks to improve :).

Thank you so much for reading this post. Cheers and happy boardgaming \^^/
